Holy Season of Lent
Lent is indeed a time of grace; above all it is a time to prepare ourselves for the celebration of the death and Resurrection of Christ. One can effectively relive the mystery only with purified mind and heart. The purpose of Lent is to provide that purification. Hereby, I request all parish priests to instruct the faithful in having a wonderful experience of God’s special graces. Prayer, penance and alms-giving are the core points of the Season of Lent. The faithful are exhorted to do penance on all Fridays. Fasting and abstinence are to be observed on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. All those who have completed the age of 14 are bound to observe the law of abstinence; those who have completed the age of 18 and not yet attained the age of 60 are obliged to observe the law of fasting.
